This series focuses on familiar, functional structures encountered in the landscape. The shelters are presented as they exist, simple forms set against open space, where their purpose is both practical and implied.

Cracks, markings, gravel and layers of material are observed closely and developed with a high level of control and precision. Lines move through the compositions, dividing and connecting space, while areas of texture and detail are balanced to create a sense of structure within what might otherwise appear incidental.

At first, the paintings can read as abstract compositions. It is only through the accuracy of their rendering that the materials become recognisable, shifting the image back toward representation. This movement between abstraction and recognition becomes central to how the work is experienced.

By isolating these surfaces, the work alters how they are read. What is normally experienced in passing is held in place, inviting a slower and more attentive way of looking.
